A Chicago native, Sophie grew up playing in the Chicago Symphony Youth Orchestras. During her time with CYSO, she performed on the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's brass concert, and competed at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. She continued her studies in Chicago by attending Northwestern University for her undergraduate degree, where she studied with Gail Williams and Jonathan Boen. Sophie graduated in 2020 with her Bachelor of Music, majoring in French horn performance and earning a minor in Creative Writing in Poetry, one of her other passions.
After graduation, Sophie worked remotely with Andrew Bain before moving to Boston. She completed her Master's degree at New England Conservatory this spring, where she studied with Rachel Childers of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Sophie is an active freelance horn player in the Boston area, and recently made her debut with the Boston Pops Orchestra. Sophie has received fellowships in the Community Engagement program with her woodwind quintet and horn quartet at New England Conservatory. Sophie has received the Horn Fellowship at the Bowdoin International Music Festival for the summer of 2024. In 2022 and 2023, she attended the Colorado College Summer Music Festival in Colorado Springs as a Horn Fellow, and she performed as an extra player with the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra in 2023.
When she is not performing, Sophie enjoys spending time outdoors, especially through hiking. Since moving to Boston, she has taken on the challenge of hiking the 48 4,000 foot mountains of New Hampshire, and uses this goal as a way to spend time reconnecting with nature.
